Loan Modification

I have indeed. I tried to negotiate with my lenders, and they were absolute jerks, in all candor. The sad thing in this world, is Corporate America respects you more if you hire an attorney or get professional help, in this case, a consultant. I got nowhere with them; they were going to shave off a tiny bit of my monthly payments (by lowering the interest rate) and then tack on the shaved-off amount to the end of my loan after 30 years! And they would only do this after I completed all kinds of proof-of-income forms, etc.
I then got a mortgage / foreclosure consultant to help. Well worth it. They got me over two points off my interest rate, which was a HUGE difference in monthly payments, and nothing added to the loan. In sum, I strongly suggest seeking professional help. There are many places to look on the web.
